Herring salad (Vinigret)
Description
The salad is quick and easy to prepare. The recipe for herring vinaigrette is very simple and combines boiled vegetables, herring, and pickled cucumbers perfectly. In my opinion, this combination is truly excellent, making this salad a great addition to your everyday meals and a wonderful addition to any festive table. For those who are hesitant about combining herring and cucumbers, I'd say this pairing is quite interesting and adds a certain piquancy to the dish. Personally, I prepare this salad for almost every family celebration, and believe me, it disappears faster than any other dish, as it tastes like a mix of "herring under a fur coat" and classic vinaigrette—undoubtedly the most popular salads across the entire post-Soviet region. So be sure to try making this wonderful salad, and I'll gladly share with you how to make herring vinaigrette. The salad is ready to serve.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

First, thoroughly rinse the potatoes, carrots, and beets under water. Then transfer them to a pot, cover with water, and place over heat. Cook for 30-40 minutes until fully done.
- 2
Step 2

While the vegetables are boiling, we can prepare the remaining ingredients. First, finely chop the pickled cucumbers.
- 3
Step 3

Cut the herring fillet into small cubes as well. If you want the herring flavor to be more pronounced, you can cut it into larger pieces.
- 4
Step 4

Finely chop the green onions.
- 5
Step 5

When the other vegetables are cooked, we need to cool them down. Then we can proceed to chopping them: peel the carrots and cut them into cubes.
- 6
Step 6

We also peel the potatoes and cut them into cubes with sides of 1-1.5 centimeters.
- 7
Step 7

We do the same with the beet.
- 8
Step 8

Now combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl, add mayonnaise and salt, and mix thoroughly. Our herring salad is ready, and we can taste it. Enjoy your meal!
