with chicken
Description
You can add almost any ingredients: tomatoes, mushrooms, shrimp, etc. The most important thing is that the soup tastes good to you and your loved ones, friends. Remember to add lime or its juice directly to the bowls when serving, so the milk doesn't curdle. Serve with fresh herbs and sour cream.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients. Rinse the chicken pieces, peel the onion and rinse it as well.
- 2
Step 2

Cut the chicken into portion-sized pieces. Keep in mind that if the bird is a farm-raised (home) chicken, it needs to be boiled or stewed for 1 hour. Broiler chickens take 20-30 minutes to cook.
- 3
Step 3

Slice the onion into petals or large pieces—your preference. Peel the ginger and slice it into rounds or strips. Heat vegetable or coconut oil in a wok and sauté the onion until golden brown, about 3–4 minutes.
- 4
Step 4

Add the chicken meat and cook over medium heat for about 8-10 minutes.
- 5
Step 5

Occasionally stir and turn the chicken to the other side for even cooking.
- 6
Step 6

Pour in the water and simmer over medium heat, covered, for 45 minutes. If the water evaporates, add a little more boiling water.
- 7
Step 7

Add the "Tom Yum" paste, seasonings, and spices, then pour in the coconut milk. Keep in mind that the coconut milk should be at room temperature.
- 8
Step 8

Wash the green onion and parsley or cilantro, chop coarsely, and add to the container. You can also add other herbs, such as lemongrass.
- 9
Step 9

Place the hot pepper into the soup without cutting it and simmer for another 1-2 minutes. Turn off the heat.
- 10
Step 10

Delicious and aromatic Tom Yum soup is ready!
- 11
Step 11

Cut the lime into wedges or quarters. Pour the soup into individual serving bowls and add the lime. You can top it with chopped herbs. Enjoy your meal!
