Beef soup with cumin
Description
Perfect for lunch. I didn't invent this beef and cumin soup recipe myself—I honestly borrowed it from some cookbook, though I can't remember which one anymore. Actually, beef soup with cumin is a classic in traditional Brazilian cuisine. In my opinion, this soup turns out quite good—aromatic, hearty, and delicious. It's worth preparing a couple of times a year to vary your diet. Give it a try. The soup is ready to serve.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1
Cut the meat into cubes and fry on all sides in butter. It is advisable to add the meat in small portions so that it fries rather than steams.
- 2
Step 2
When the meat has developed a firm crust, add finely chopped onion. Sauté together for another 2-3 minutes.
- 3
Step 3
In a saucepan, bring water (a little over a liter) to a boil, add the meat with onion, and simmer for 30 minutes over medium heat, uncovered.
- 4
Step 4
Peel, wash, and cut the potatoes into small slices. When the soup has been cooking for half an hour, add the potatoes and salt.
- 5
Step 5
Immediately add the grated lemon zest and cumin to the pot. Cook the soup until the potatoes and meat are tender.
- 6
Step 6
When the meat and potatoes become tender, add tomato paste and finely chopped garlic to the soup.
- 7
Step 7
Bring to a boil and remove from heat. The soup is ready! Serve hot.
