Herring salad "Shuba" (with gelatin)
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Surprise your family and loved ones with this beautifully presented delicious salad. The salad holds its shape well, looks stunning when sliced, and remains incredibly tender. I recommend using a tall silicone mold, but if you choose ceramic or glass, line the bottom and sides with plastic wrap. "Herring under a fur coat" can be prepared and decorated in various ways. This version definitely deserves your attention. Make a note of it and serve at the table.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients from the list. Boil the potatoes, carrots, beets, and eggs in advance and let them cool. Prepare the herring fillets.
- 2
Step 2

Pour room temperature water over the gelatin and let it soak for approximately half an hour.
- 3
Step 3

Place the swollen gelatin over heat, warm it while stirring, but do not let it boil. Stir until the gelatin dissolves. If the gelatin boils, it loses its gelling properties. You can also melt the gelatin in a microwave.
- 4
Step 4

Add mayonnaise.
- 5
Step 5

Mix.
- 6
Step 6

Grate the potatoes, carrots, beets, and eggs on a coarse grater. Finely dice the onion and scald it with boiling water. Cut the herring into small cubes. Mix mayonnaise with gelatin and distribute it separately into each ingredient of the future "shuba" (onion, carrots, herring, eggs, potatoes, and beets), stirring well. Now you need to work very quickly.
- 7
Step 7

Inside the mold, layer the vegetables and herring. Salt each layer to taste. Start with the beet layer.
- 8
Step 8

Next comes the carrot.
- 9
Step 9

Next, place the eggs and spread the onion on top.
- 10
Step 10

Then evenly distribute the herring.
- 11
Step 11

As the last layer, place the potatoes. Arrange the layers as quickly as possible, since the gelatin with mayonnaise sets rapidly. If you didn't manage in time, put the plate with vegetables in the microwave for 20–30 seconds.
- 12
Step 12

Place the salad in the refrigerator for 2 hours, or refrigerate overnight. Invert the mold with the set salad onto a plate and garnish with herbs, if desired. Herring under a fur coat with gelatin is ready.
- 13
Step 13

Impressive and very delicious!
