Herring under a fur coat with egg
Description
A simple dish to prepare. The most popular version of this traditional salad. I won't claim that my recipe is the best, but I do guarantee it will be delicious! Preparing this salad is extremely easy, and the list of required ingredients is minimal. Whenever I have guests, I always make "herring under a fur coat" with eggs—adding the whites to the salad and using the yolks for decoration. The salad turns out very tasty, tender, and appetizing. I hope you'll enjoy this version too. Serve chilled.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients from the list. Boil the vegetables and eggs in advance. Let them cool down. You can use herring as ready-made fillet. I have a whole fish.
- 2
Step 2

If you are using whole herring instead of herring fillet, you need to peel off the skin, gut it, and separate the fillet from the bones, carefully removing all small bones. Then cut the fillet into small cubes. Similarly, cut the onion into cubes, pour boiling water over it for 2-3 minutes, then drain in a sieve and let the water drain off.
- 3
Step 3

Grate the beet, carrots, and potatoes on a coarse grater.
- 4
Step 4

Separate boiled eggs into yolks and whites. Grate the whites on a coarse grater and the yolks on a fine grater.
- 5
Step 5

The salad is traditionally layered. I will use a regular deep dish, but you can also assemble the salad using a cooking ring or simply on a flat plate. Place the potatoes as the first layer. Season with salt and pepper, then spread with mayonnaise.
- 6
Step 6

Next, place the herring.
- 7
Step 7

Place the onion evenly on the herring, season with salt and pepper, and spread mayonnaise on top.
- 8
Step 8

Place the grated carrots on the onion. Add salt and spread mayonnaise on top.
- 9
Step 9

The next layer consists of egg whites. Season the egg whites with salt and spread mayonnaise on them.
- 10
Step 10

The last layer is beet. Salt the beet and spread mayonnaise on it.
- 11
Step 11

Herring under a fur coat with egg is ready. Let the salad chill and marinate for at least 3 hours in the refrigerator, then sprinkle the top with yolk before serving.
- 12
Step 12

You can decorate the salad with herbs or as your imagination suggests. The salad turns out very tasty, delicate, satisfying, and festive! Many families always prepare the "Herring under a Fur Coat" salad for holidays, and it's no wonder — this dish deserves a place at any festive table!
