Herring under a fur coat for the Year of the Rat
Description
Perfect for an everyday table. I want to remind you of the wonderful traditional holiday salad and prepare herring under a fur coat for the Year of the Rat. Let's present the dish beautifully and symbolically, in the shape of the upcoming year's totem. You can chop the ingredients into cubes, but I prefer using a grater, which makes the salad incredibly tender and delicious. Feel free to involve the kids in decorating—it will undoubtedly bring them great joy and lots of positive emotions. Decorate as desired and serve.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients. Boil all the vegetables (except onion) and eggs in advance, and let them cool.
- 2
Step 2

Peel the eggs, separate the whites from the yolks, and grate them on a grater.
- 3
Step 3

Peel all the vegetables and grate them on a coarse grater. Cut the onion into cubes; if using regular onion, scald it with boiling water. Prepare the herring fillets and cut them into small cubes.
- 4
Step 4

On a flat plate, preferably rectangular in shape, layer the salad. Spread each layer with mayonnaise and season with salt to taste. Place the potatoes as the first layer.
- 5
Step 5

Place the prepared herring on the potato.
- 6
Step 6

Then comes a layer of sliced onions.
- 7
Step 7

Evenly distribute the carrots on top.
- 8
Step 8

Then comes a layer of grated egg whites.
- 9
Step 9

And the salad is finished with a layer of beet. Spread the beet not only on top, but also on the sides.
- 10
Step 10

Coat the salad evenly with mayonnaise on all sides. Use a spoon or spatula to shape it as desired and decorate symbolically, letting your imagination guide you. I used olives for the nose and eyes, herbs for the tail and whiskers, and egg whites for the ears.
