Herring under a fur coat without beets

Description

A simple dish to prepare. Not everyone likes "shuba," many precisely because it contains beets. And although shuba without beets is not quite shuba, it's still possible to make it. To prepare herring under a "shuba" without beets, we'll need all the other ingredients, except beets. I usually take cleaned herring, as I don't like spending a lot of time preparing it, so I just buy it ready-made. 1. First, put the potatoes and eggs to boil. You can boil the potatoes in their skins and peel them afterwards. Boil the eggs hard. 2. Cut the herring into small pieces—I know people do it differently, but I prefer it finely chopped. This way you get a nice, even layer. 3. As for the carrots, I don't just boil them—I grate them and then stew them with onions. Our carrots will be cooked this way. 4. Grate the boiled potatoes on a coarse grater. This will be the first layer. Place the herring on top. There's no need to spread mayonnaise here—the herring is fatty enough on its own. 5. Then add another layer of potatoes. Now you can spread mayonnaise. 6. Add a layer of grated hard-boiled eggs—and again, mayonnaise. 7. Then add the stewed carrots, more grated eggs—and once more, mayonnaise. Place the finished herring under shuba without beets into the refrigerator for about an hour to let it chill and absorb the flavors. Serve it cold, garnished with fresh herbs.
