Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the listed ingredients. You can use lightly salted herring fillet or canned herring. Boil the chicken eggs and potatoes in advance, then let them cool.
- 2
Step 2

Peel the boiled potatoes and chicken eggs, then rinse them in water. Grate the egg whites and yolks separately, as well as the potatoes, using a fine grater into separate containers. Add salt and mayonnaise to each container. Gently mix the contents of each container.

Step 3

Place a layer of potatoes into a serving square or ring—this will be the base of the salad. Peel, rinse, and cut the white onion in half. Dice half of the onion finely and place it on top of the potato layer. If using red onion, marinate the diced pieces in vinegar beforehand, then squeeze them dry before adding to remove their bitterness.

Step 4

Wash the green apple and cut it in half, remove the core, and grate the fruit pieces on a fine grater. Sprinkle with vinegar or lemon juice, mix well.
- 5
Step 5

Place the chopped fillet of lightly salted herring on the onion layer.
- 6
Step 6

On the layer of herring, place the chopped apple and smooth it out.
- 7
Step 7

On the apple layer—place boiled yolks mixed with mayonnaise and smooth again.
- 8
Step 8

The final layer is a layer of crushed egg whites. It serves as the "white coat" for the herring.
- 9
Step 9

Carefully remove the serving square and garnish the salad to taste, then serve.
