Instructions

Step 1

Here is the set of ingredients we need to prepare classic borscht with meat broth.

Step 2

First, you need to cook a meat broth. Wash the meat, place it in a pot, and cover with water. Add bay leaf. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a minimum and simmer until the meat is tender (cooking time depends on the type of meat you've chosen). Carefully remove the meat from the broth once cooked.

Step 3

Strain the broth if desired. Season with salt to taste and add diced potatoes. Cook for about 10-12 minutes.
- 4
Step 4

Peel the onion and carrot, chop finely, and sauté in a pan with a small amount of vegetable oil.
- 5
Step 5

Place the sautéed vegetables and finely shredded cabbage into the pot with the broth.

Step 6

Meanwhile, pour a little more oil into the pan and add the grated beet. Fry for a couple of minutes, then add the vinegar. Simmer for another 5 minutes, then add the tomato paste. Cook over low heat for another 5-7 minutes.

Step 7

Place the meat, previously cut into portion pieces, and the beet into the broth.

Step 8

Add salt, pepper, sugar, and garlic to taste. Cook for another 7–10 minutes until the potatoes are done. Then remove from heat, cover with a lid, and let it steep for half an hour. Before serving, you can add fresh herbs and sour cream. Borscht is ready!
