Prepare all the ingredients from the list. I use smoked sausage, but boiled sausage also works well—choose according to your taste. You can cook the beans yourself or use canned ones; I particularly like using canned beans in tomato sauce for this salad.

Dice the onion and grate the carrot on a coarse grater.
