First of all, let's prepare the onion. Peel and slice the onion thinly into half-rings or quarter-rings.

Step 2

Transfer the onion to a deep bowl, add salt, sugar, vinegar, and pour boiling water over it. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Then squeeze the onion to remove the marinade and let it cool completely.

Step 3

Slice the cucumbers into thin strips.

Step 4

And slice the boiled tongue into similarly thin strips.

Step 5

Let's prepare the salad dressing. To do this, mix ketchup and mayonnaise. You can add ground black pepper.

Step 6

The salad can be prepared individually for each guest or made in a large salad bowl. Our salad will be layered. The first layer consists of sliced tongue spread with dressing. Reserve some of the sliced tongue for garnishing the salad.

Step 7

As the second layer, place the marinated onions, also brush with the dressing.

Step 8

And as the final layer, place the cucumbers. Spread with the dressing.

Step 10

Before serving, garnish the salad with herbs and drops of ketchup. You can substitute ketchup with cranberries—they will be delicious too.
