Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

Here is the simple set of ingredients we will need to prepare the salad.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

First, place two pots of water on the stove. Into the first one, add bay leaf and black peppercorns. Into the second, add washed, peeled, and sliced carrots.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

Rinse the cod fillet, though you can use any other white fish such as pollock or hake. Cut the fillet into pieces and, when the water comes to a boil, place them into the pot. Cook for about 15 minutes, until done. Optionally, you can salt the water and add lemon juice.

    Step 4

    Step 4

While our fish and carrots are boiling, we rinse the dill and chop it. A couple of sprigs can be set aside for garnish.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

Remove the cooked fish with a slotted spoon and let it cool down enough to comfortably pick through and remove the bones, then flake the fish with a fork.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Step 6

By this time, our carrots will be cooked and can be grated on a coarse grater.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

Place all ingredients in a bowl, add mayonnaise, salt, and ground black pepper.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

Mix well. This is the consistency we should get. It resembles pâté, but fish-based.

  9. 9

    Step 9

    Step 9

The salad can be left to marinate or served immediately. I suggest serving it on toasted bread with a piece of butter and a slice of lemon. This salad will also look great in tartlets, garnished with red caviar.
