
Salting mackerel
Description
This appetizer is quick and easy to prepare. Salting fish at home ensures proper sanitary standards and no harmful additives, since apart from spices you add nothing to the brine. Salted mackerel is not only very tasty but also extremely beneficial, as it contains polyunsaturated Omega-3 fatty acids. Serve with herbs and sauce.

Prepare all the ingredients for making salted mackerel.

Gut the mackerel, remove the black membrane from the belly cavity, and wash it thoroughly inside and out.

Prepare the brine. Pour water into a saucepan. Add black peppercorns, bay leaf, and allspice.

Add sugar to the brine.

Salt the brine. Bring to a boil, simmer for 2–3 minutes, and turn off the heat. Then cool the brine.

Place the mackerel in the brine so that the fish is fully submerged. You can place a weight on top. Refrigerate the mackerel in the brine.

In 4-5 days, the salted mackerel will be ready. Serve as an appetizer on weekdays and holidays.
