    Wash the basil and dry it. Cut off the stems and chop the leaves with a knife. Peel the garlic and finely chop it or press it through a garlic press. Slice a couple of rings of chili pepper, removing the seeds.

    Transfer the tomatoes to a blender and puree, or pass them through a meat grinder.

    Pour the resulting tomato purée into a sauté pan or a saucepan with a thick bottom.
