Step 1

1. First, you need to peel the potatoes and put them to boil in slightly salted water.
- 2
Step 2

2. The recipe for potato casserole with boiled meat assumes that the meat is already ready. If not, simultaneously start boiling the meat (preferably lean pork or beef). Meanwhile, peel and chop the onion. Pour a little water into a frying pan and add the onion. Simmer gently until soft (if the dish is intended only for adults, sauté the onion in vegetable oil until golden brown).

Step 3

3. Let the cooked meat cool slightly, then pass it through a meat grinder. Transfer it to the skillet with the onion. Season with salt and pepper to taste, add a little water, and simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

4. Drain the water from the potatoes, leaving a little. Add the egg and warm milk, and use a mixer to turn it into a puree. If necessary, add a little of the water in which the potatoes were boiled.
- 5
Step 5

5. Grease the baking dish lightly with oil or line it with parchment paper. Spread half of the potatoes in an even layer.
- 6
Step 6

6. Next, place the minced meat, pressing it firmly against the potatoes.
- 7
Step 7

7. Cover with the remaining half of the mashed potatoes and smooth the top. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs, or if desired, with grated cheese. Now the potato casserole with boiled meat is ready to be baked in the oven for about 35–40 minutes. Once cooked, let it cool slightly before cutting into portion-sized pieces.
