1. Wash and peel the potatoes and onions.

2. Slice the potatoes thinly, and dice the onion and ham. Reserve some ham slices for the top layer of the casserole. Grease the baking dish with butter. Layer the sliced ingredients, seasoning the first layer with salt and pepper to taste. Keep in mind that ham is already salty.
