Baked apples in caramel
Description
The recipe won't take much time. To prepare baked apples in caramel, we need large, firm, sweet-and-sour apples. By the way, you can bake them not only with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, but also add nuts or dried fruits inside. Next, see Serve chilled.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Wash the apples.
- 2
Step 2

Remove the core. It's most convenient to do this using a special apple corer. If you don't have one like in the photo, carefully do it with a regular knife.
- 3
Step 3

Mix together ground nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon, then add sugar. If you decided to use nuts as well, chop them finely (but not in a blender, just cut them into small pieces) and add to the dry mixture.
- 4
Step 4

Place the apples in a baking dish and add water to cover the bottom.
- 5
Step 5

Generously fill each apple with the sugar-nut mixture, don't skimp on it. Place a small piece of butter on top of each apple.
- 6
Step 6

Cover with foil and place in a preheated oven at 180°C for 35–40 minutes. If the apples become tender earlier, remove them from the oven.
- 7
Step 7

While the apples are baking, prepare the caramel. You can, of course, make it yourself from sugar and water, but I find it easier just to melt caramel candies in a double boiler—the result is excellent. Do this a couple of minutes before taking the apples out of the oven, so the caramel doesn't harden again.
- 8
Step 8

You can drizzle the baked apples with caramel before serving or serve the caramel in a separate sauce dish, so everyone can take as much as they want.
- 9
Step 9

Done.
