
Jellied Pike

The recipe won't take much time. River fish has always been popular in Rus. Many different dishes were made from it. This simplest recipe for jellied pike will let you adorn your festive table with a very good cold appetizer. The dish is light both to prepare and to eat. Every homemaker has her own recipe for jellied pike, and I'm sharing my own. But you don't have to follow it exactly—it can serve as a basis for your own experiments. Good luck and

This is the pike we got. Gut it, clean it, wash it, and cut into pieces.

Place the dressed fish in a pot (don't forget to remove the gills if using pike!!!). Add enough water to cover the fish. Add salt, pepper, and a bay leaf. You can toss in a couple of sprigs of dill. Simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes.

When the fish is done cooking, remove it from the pot. Strain the broth and add the soaked gelatin to it. Heat until fully dissolved. Do not let it boil!

Place pieces of boiled pike on a plate and pour in broth until they are about half covered.

While the first layer of jelly is setting, let's prepare the decorations. For this, we'll boil an egg and a carrot. Let them cool and cut them into different shapes—flowers, circles. Arrange our decorations on the set jelly and pour another layer on top.
