New Year's Skewer Appetizers
Description
The appetizer is quick and easy to make. You can prepare skewer appetizers for New Year’s on whatever bread you like best. You will also need a vegetable peeler, as well as skewers or regular wooden toothpicks. This appetizer works for any celebration, and you don’t have to make a whole platter—you can simply use canapés to decorate a serving dish with sandwiches or tartlets. Serve the appetizer at the table.
Instructions

Step 1

Prepare all ingredients according to the list. Any bread you like will work. Cherry tomatoes can be replaced with olives. Use a long cucumber.
- 2
Step 2

Cut round pieces from the bread; I cut them out using a regular shot glass.
- 3
Step 3

Toast the bread in a pan on both sides.
- 4
Step 4

Spread cream cheese on the toast.
- 5
Step 5

You can substitute cream cheese with processed cheese or cut the same circles from hard cheese.
- 6
Step 6

Place lettuce leaves on top.
- 7
Step 7

Arrange one round of smoked sausage on the salad. Slice the sausage into thin rounds first; I used pre-sliced sausage.
- 8
Step 8

A long cucumber should be thinly sliced lengthwise with a vegetable peeler.
- 9
Step 9

Shape the cucumbers into a stylized Christmas tree, as shown in the photo, and place cherry tomatoes on top, securing the whole structure with skewers or toothpicks.
