Appetizer for Cognac by Nicholas II

Perfect for the table and with drinks. It is a well-known fact that our last tsar, Nicholas II, loved to pair cognac exactly this way—with cheese wrapped in a slice of lemon. This appetizer really goes very well with cognac, and it's also quick and easy to make—which is no small thing. You can confidently serve this cognac appetizer at any festive table where cognac is served—for example, at a New Year's feast. By the way, if you replace the sugar in the recipe with salt, you'll end up with not a cognac appetizer but a tequila appetizer :) Serve the appetizer at the table.

Wash the lemon and slice it into thin rounds. Remove any seeds, if there are any.

Dip each slice of lemon in sugar.

Cut the cheese into thin slices and place on lemon slices.

Fold the lemon in half and pierce it with a toothpick.
