Potato and Mushroom Appetizer
Description
It's suitable both for holidays and for everyday meals. Today I want to share with you a recipe for a simple yet impressive and very tasty dish made from inexpensive ingredients. It's not difficult to make and very engaging, as shaping "flowers" from potato slices is a creative process and you can involve children in it. It can be served warm or chilled.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

To prepare the potato snack with mushrooms, prepare the ingredients. It is best to use large, evenly shaped potatoes. Canned mushrooms can be used.
- 2
Step 2

First, prepare the mushroom filling. Slice the mushrooms and sauté them in a mixture of vegetable and butter. For garnishing the dish, set aside a few mushrooms in advance.
- 3
Step 3

Add salt, pepper, and 1 tbsp. flour to the sautéed mushrooms and mix. Pour in the cream and, stirring over low heat, cook the filling down to the desired thickness. Add a pinch of nutmeg and remove the pan from the heat. If desired, you can add any fresh herbs to the mushroom filling.
- 4
Step 4

Peel the potatoes and grate them into thin slices using a special grater.
- 5
Step 5

To keep the potato slices from browning, pour in a small amount of vegetable oil. Add garlic powder, salt, paprika, and mix.
- 6
Step 6

Prepare molds for shaping potato flowers. These can be silicone or metal molds. If using a metal mold, for reliability, place a circle of parchment paper on the bottom. Place a suitable potato slice on the bottom of the mold and begin forming "petals" along the sides of the mold, arranging the potato slices in an overlapping pattern.
- 7
Step 7

This amount of ingredients yields 10 potato roses.
- 8
Step 8

Place the mushroom filling in the center of each potato flower and sprinkle grated cheese on top. You can garnish the rosettes with pan-fried mushroom slices set aside in advance.
- 9
Step 9

Lightly brush the potato petals with vegetable oil mixed with paprika and garlic powder. Bake in an oven preheated to 180°C until the potatoes are tender. To keep the potatoes from browning too much too early, cover them with foil. At the end of cooking, remove the foil so the potatoes can brown.
- 10
Step 10

Each potato flower will turn out different from the others. Approach this process creatively, with imagination.
- 11
Step 11

This hot appetizer can be prepared with different fillings: meat, fish, or vegetable.
- 12
Step 12

Potato roses can be served both as an appetizer and as a main hot dish.
- 13
Step 13

Done. Serve with herbs.
