Japanese Mochi on Sticks

Description

The appetizer is quick and easy to prepare. Mochi is a popular Japanese dessert-snack loved by both adults and children. I will offer a rather unusual way of preparing this dish, which is most often made in European countries and is an adapted recipe. The main ingredient of Japanese mochi on sticks is, of course, rice. Its flavor is complemented by soy sauce, miso, and mirin. Ground walnuts give the dish a special aroma. Serve with greens and sauce.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

Cook the rice until done; you can even let it cook a little longer so it becomes softer and stickier. Mash the rice with a potato masher, which will make it even stickier, and the finished dish will not fall apart.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

From half of the rice, form a flat cake. Place wooden sticks in the center, and wrap it so the shape resembles an ice cream cone.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

Place the mochi on an oiled skillet and fry on one side until lightly golden.

  4. 4

Then flip it over and add all the sauce ingredients: soy sauce, mirin, miso, walnuts crushed to a crumb-like consistency, and a little sugar.

    Step 5

Mix everything well in the pan and fry until done. The mochi will take on a beautiful caramel color.

Sprinkle the finished mochi with sesame seeds. Serve on a stick. Enjoy!
