Description

Baked goods come together easily and quickly. If in France breakfast means fresh croissants and baguettes, then in England the traditional breakfast treat is apple scones. They are not particularly hard to make—no fussy ingredients, and you don’t need to put in a huge effort either. Yet the dessert turns out delicious. Just don’t forget to buy good tea! :) Serve cool or lightly warm.

    In a large bowl, stir together the sifted flour, baking powder, and salt.

    Add butter cut into cubes to the flour.

    Add sugar to the flour mixture, then rub the entire mixture until it has a crumb consistency.

    Meanwhile, work on the apples: grate half on a coarse grater, and cut the other half into medium-sized cubes.

    Transfer the apples to the flour mixture, then add milk to it and knead a sufficiently soft dough.

    Roll out the kneaded dough into a sheet 1 cm thick.

    Using a sharp cutter, cut out the scones. A cup won't work for this—only a sharp cutter, or the scones won't rise. This isn't dumplings-making :)

    Arrange the scones on a baking sheet, sprinkle with sugar on top, and bake in the oven. Bake for 20–25 minutes at 190°C.
