Dried apples

Description

Homemade preserves keep for a long time. In winter, these little apples are a real treat to chew on while curled up on the couch with a book. They're tasty, healthy, and low in calories! Drop them into boiling water, simmer them—and you'll get a delicious compote. You can add them to porridge, pancakes, and desserts—their uses are limited only by your imagination. To make dried apples, you can use fruit of any variety and shape; the main thing is that they shouldn't be overripe. Even worm-damaged fruit can be trimmed and put to good use! :) So, here's a recipe for making dried apples

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

Wash the apples under running water, pat dry, and slice into wedges. The skin will become quite tough during drying—I actually like that, but you can peel it off.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

    Mix sugar with cinnamon.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

Transfer the apples to a saucepan, sprinkle with sugar, and stir.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Step 4

Place a weight on top and refrigerate for 12 hours.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

When this time has elapsed, drain off the juice that has formed, and arrange the apple slices on a rack or baking sheet, spaced slightly apart from each other. Place in a warm oven (approximately 60°C) for 2–3 hours.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Step 6

Remove the finished apples from the oven and cool completely, stirring occasionally. This may take several hours. Then pack into airtight jars or linen bags and store in a dry, well-ventilated place.
