Oriental cookies
Description
Delicious baked treats for the whole family. In the East, it's customary not to serve just one dessert at the table; often, hostesses offer a variety of sweets—such as Turkish delight, halva, sherbet, and cookies. These sweets typically contain plenty of sugar, nuts, honey, seeds, and sesame. Eastern cookies stay fresh and crumbly for a long time. They can be served with tea or coffee.

Step 1

1. I prepare the syrup: pour water into a saucepan and add granulated sugar. Place the pot over heat, once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to the minimum and cook for 10 minutes. Then add lemon juice, cook for another 2–3 minutes, and remove from heat.

Step 2

2. Cut the butter into pieces and melt in the microwave, add the egg, vanilla to taste, and powdered sugar.

Step 3

3. Pour in vegetable oil, mix the flour with the baking powder, and gradually add it to the liquid ingredients. Knead an elastic and airy dough.

Step 4

4. Pinch off small pieces from the soft dough, roll each into a ball, and place them on a baking sheet. Shell the walnuts and place one walnut into each cookie.

Step 5

5. Bake the cookies in a preheated oven at 160°C for 20–30 minutes (until golden brown). Transfer the baked cookies to a bowl and pour the previously prepared syrup over them. Let them soak for 1–3 hours, turning occasionally.

Step 6

6. Eastern cookies are very sweet, so I serve them with tea or coffee without sugar.
