Viennese cookies classic recipe
Description
You may already know how to make Viennese cookies—the classic recipe is familiar to many from childhood. And for those who haven't yet tried this simple version of homemade pastry, I highly recommend memorizing the recipe and making it with your favorite jam or preserves. Serve cooled or slightly warm.

Step 1

1. To prepare the dough, you need to cream the sugar with the margarine. To make it easier, the classic recipe for Viennese cookies at home can be modified by using powdered sugar.

Step 2

2. Add sifted flour, salt, vanilla, baking soda, and eggs to the resulting mixture. Knead the dough. It will turn out very soft and easy to work with. Immediately divide it into two unequal parts.

Step 3

3. Wrap the smaller portion in plastic wrap or a bag and place it in the freezer. The dough should become firm.

Step 4

4. Spread the second part over a baking sheet or baking dish. This is quite simple to do; there's no need to roll out the dough.

Step 5

5. You can choose absolutely any filling, but it's better to opt for a thicker one. There are no special recommendations for making Viennese cookies—the classic recipe doesn't have any—just pick a filling that you like.

Step 6

6. Set aside piece of dough should be grated and spread over the jam.

Step 7

7. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven for about half an hour. The cake layer bakes quite quickly, so once the top turns golden brown, it's ready to be taken out of the oven.
