Prepare all the ingredients.

Mix the sugar and water, bring to a boil, and simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved. About 1 minute.

Let the syrup cool slightly and pour it into a bowl. Add a couple of drops of vanilla syrup. Pour in the vegetable oil and stir.

Sift half of the flour and the leavening agent into a bowl. Stir.

Sift the remaining flour onto the work surface. Add the dough and knead. The dough should become pliable and not stick to your hands.

Divide the dough into pieces of 40–45 g. Roll them into balls and flatten them slightly. Bake in a pre‑heated oven at 190 °C for no more than 15 minutes.

For the glaze, combine sugar and water, and place over low heat. Bring to a boil and cook for about 2–3 minutes. Test readiness with a drop; it should not spread across the plate.

Add a couple of spoonfuls of icing to the bowl and coat each gingerbread with it.
