
Vatrushki with Ham and Cheese
Description
It goes perfectly with tea and coffee. Ham and cheese vatrushki are easy and simple to make. You can add a pickled gherkin or a fresh tomato to the filling. Experiment, and each time you’ll have vatrushki with a new flavor. They can be served with tea or coffee.

Prepare the necessary ingredients.

Dissolve the sugar and yeast in the warm milk. Leave for 15 minutes.

When the time is up, add the egg and mix.

Add salt, two thirds of the amount of flour called for in the recipe. Start kneading the dough.

As soon as the dough starts to gather into lumps, add the remaining flour and vegetable oil. Knead until smooth.

The finished dough should be soft, light, and pliable. Shape it into a ball and place it in a bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave it for 1 hour in a warm, draft-free place.

Prepare the filling. Cut the ham into thin, short julienne strips. Place in the bowl.

For the ham, grate the cheese and onion. Add mayonnaise and salt to taste. The filling is ready.

Do a light punch-down. Divide the dough into 10 portions. Shape each into a ball and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave for 10 minutes.
