Boiled eggs

Description

Boiled eggs can be used not only for preparing snacks or various salads, but also simply eaten for breakfast or taken outdoors as a nutritious snack. Eggs are served with spices, sauces, or just with bread. Properly cooked yolk depends on precisely calculated cooking time. Overcook them slightly, and the yolk becomes firm; undercook, and it remains raw. I will share how and for how long to boil eggs to achieve a runny yolk, a firm yolk, or even one with slightly unset white. Following this guide, you'll be able to boil eggs exactly the way you like them.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

Take the egg out of the refrigerator and wash it with warm water to prevent cracking during boiling.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

Bring water to a boil in a saucepan. Add salt to the water—2 tablespoons per liter. Even if the egg cracks, the egg white won't leak out. Carefully place the egg into the boiling water. Never put cold eggs directly into boiling water. Warm them to room temperature by removing from the refrigerator an hour beforehand, or by heating them in warm water. Cook over high heat without a lid.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

After boiling, immediately transfer the egg to a bowl of cold water or hold it under a cool running stream to stop the cooking process. This will also make peeling the shell easier. If you place the eggs in cold water instead of boiling water, the cooking time will need to be increased. In this case, first place the eggs in a saucepan, cover them with cold water, and bring to a boil over medium heat. Then start timing, but add about 1–1.5 minutes to the recommended cooking time, since heating occurs more slowly. For example, C1-sized eggs, which take about 5 minutes to cook in boiling water, will require about 6 minutes after the water comes to a boil when started in cold water. After cooking, they should also be immediately transferred to cold water to stop the cooking process.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Step 4

What happens to an egg during boiling? Take a look at the photo. This egg was boiled for 3 minutes — runny yolk and not very firm white.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

If you place an egg into boiling water for 5 minutes, you'll get a runny yolk and a tender white protein mass.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Step 6

After 7 minutes from the time you place the egg into boiling water, you'll get a firm white but a runny yolk.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

After 9 minutes, the egg will be fully boiled. The egg white will be completely cooked, and the yolk will be fully set but still tender and moist, maintaining its shape.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

After 11 minutes — fully cooked. The yolk becomes completely crumbly and slightly dry, while the white becomes more elastic.

  9. 9

    Step 9

    Step 9

After 13 minutes — risk of overcooking. This option is good for preparing fillings where crumbliness is important.

  10. 10

    Step 10

    Step 10

It is not recommended to boil eggs for more than 15 minutes. With prolonged heat treatment, the egg white and yolk become rubbery and lose all their beneficial properties. In addition, the yolk begins to dry out and acquires a grainy texture.

    Step 11

Now you know how and how long to boil eggs in boiling water.
