Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the ingredients for making vareniki with stewed cabbage.

Step 2

Prepare the filling. Peel and wash the onion and carrot. Finely chop the onion and grate the carrot. Place in a frying pan.
- 3
Step 3

Finely chop the cabbage and add it to the onion and carrots.
- 4
Step 4

Pour in sunflower oil and 50 ml of water. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover the frying pan with a lid and simmer the vegetables for 15–20 minutes until tender, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

Prepare the dough. Put flour and salt into a bowl.
- 6
Step 6

Pour in the sunflower oil.
- 7
Step 7

Add hot water, but not boiling water.
- 8
Step 8

Knead a soft, elastic, yet firm dough that does not stick to your hands. Cover it with plastic wrap and let it rest for about 20 minutes.
- 9
Step 9

Cut off a piece of dough and roll it out into a thin layer. Cut out circles.
- 10
Step 10

Fill each circle with stewed cabbage.
- 11
Step 11

Pinch the edges of the circle together to form a dumpling.
- 12
Step 12

Sprinkle a plate or cutting board with flour and place the dumplings on it. I made them using a simple tool, but they turn out very well when made by hand as well.
- 13
Step 13

Boil the dumplings. Pour water into a pot, bring to a boil, add a little salt, and add the dumplings. Stir gently so they don't stick to the bottom. Once the dumplings float to the surface, continue cooking for another 5 minutes, then remove them from the pot.

Step 14

The dumplings with stewed cabbage are ready. Serve with sour cream, sauces.
