Description

Homemade preserves keep for a long time. This royal-style gooseberry jam recipe will appeal to citrus lovers. Orange pairs wonderfully with gooseberries, creating an incredible duo. This jam is worth the effort it takes. Jars keep for up to a year in a cool place.

Instructions

    Step 1

    Step 1

    1. Before you are two main ingredients that go into the recipe for making royal gooseberry jam. From the orange, you will only need the peel, though.

    2. Cover the berries with water, wash them thoroughly, and pat dry. Remove the stems with sharp scissors. For juicier jam, it's best to prick the gooseberries lightly (with a toothpick or fork, for example). Place the berries in a deep bowl and add the vodka. Mix everything gently, cover with a clean towel or lid, and let stand for about 6 hours.

    Step 3

    Step 3

    3. Carefully peel the skin from the orange. Place in a small bowl and cover with cold water. Set aside.

    4. Pat the peel dry slightly and slice into thin strips. If desired, royal-style gooseberry jam can be made at home not only with orange but also with lemon, for example.

    5. Next, combine the gooseberries, orange, and sugar. Shake and let stand for a couple of hours so the berries release their juice and absorb the flavors.

    6. Now you can return the jam to the heat, bring it to a boil, and simmer for about 10–15 minutes. Then turn off the heat, let the jam cool slightly, and bring it to a boil again. That’s it—the jam can be transferred into sterilized jars.
