Description

Perhaps sloe jam isn't made at home as often as jams from other berries and fruits, but it is in no way inferior in taste. Very sweet, with a wonderful aroma, it is definitely worth trying. Store in a cool dark place.

Instructions

    1. First, wash and dry the sloes (you can drain them in a colander or spread them on a paper towel). Pierce them lightly with a fork so the juice releases more easily. A second way to make sloe jam is to cover them with water and simmer for about 20 minutes over low heat until soft.

    2. Pour the sugar into the jam-making pot and add water. Bring to a boil and simmer for a few minutes until the sugar has partially dissolved.

    3. Transfer the berries into the sweet syrup. Gently stir, and remove from heat. At this stage, let the berries soak up the sugar for about 2 hours.

    4. Then place over heat and bring to a boil. Cook the sloe jam at home for about 1 minute, then let it cool. Repeat this process 3 times — and the jam will be fully ready.

    5. This is a simple blackthorn jam recipe that works for canning as well. Pour it hot into sterilized jars, seal them, and after it has cooled, store it in a dark, cool place.
