Currant Jam in a Bread Machine
Description
Perfect for winter preserves. I never got much joy out of making preserves—it always felt unfair that I had to stand in the kitchen for hours while everyone else relaxed outdoors. Luckily, modern appliances come to homemakers’ aid and handle all sorts of tasks wonderfully; even preserves turn out great in them. Today I’ll tell you how to make currant jam in a bread machine. Believe me, the result is incredibly tasty, and you won’t spend that much time on it—most of the work is done by the machine. In my view, it’s very convenient: you start the jam, go about your business, and when it’s done you only need to spoon the treat into jars—and you’re finished. With this simple bread-machine currant jam recipe, kitchen work becomes real leisure. 1) First, of course, sort through the berries and rinse them thoroughly, then drain them in a colander so the water runs off. 2) When the berries are dry, put them in the bread machine pan, add sugar to the currants and a spoonful of lemon juice. 3) Shake the contents of the pan so the ingredients mix, set the pan in the bread machine, select the “Jam” program, and go about your business while the machine works. 4) When the program ends, the jam is fully ready; all that’s left is to fill sterilized jars and seal them. Jam made in a bread machine is incredibly tasty and fragrant; by the way, you can also make it from red currants and other berries. The preserve is ready for winter storage.
