Description
1. First, pick through and thoroughly wash the berries. 2. Then it's best to soak them in water for about an hour (that's what my grandmother used to do too). 3. After that, run the fruit through a meat grinder. I usually pass the bird cherry through up to 4 times. I have an electric meat grinder, and this step doesn't take long. 4. Then sprinkle the berries with sugar and let them stand for about 20 minutes. 5. Transfer the mixture to a saucepan and set it over low heat. 6. Cook the preserve for about an hour—or rather, simmer it, skimming off foam from time to time and leaving the pot uncovered. 7. When that time is up, ladle the jam into jars and seal them well. The jars will keep for up to a year in a cool place.
