First, prepare the melon. Wash it thoroughly, cut it in half, and remove all the seeds.

Now peel the melon and cut the flesh into cubes.

Transfer the cut melon to a deep cooking pot, add the sugar, and mix thoroughly. Then cover with a lid and let the melon stand for 5–6 hours until it releases its juice.

Now add the lemon juice, squeezing it from the lemon into the container with the melon. Place the container over the heat and bring to a boil. Cook for 5 minutes over low heat, stirring. Then remove the melon from the heat and let it steep for 10 hours. Bring to a boil again and cook for 10 minutes. Steep for another 8 hours, add the vanilla, and cook for 15 minutes.
