Braised cabbage with sausages
Description
I suggest making a delicious and very budget-friendly dish that's easy to prepare using minimal ingredients. If you have 2-3 sausages left but 4 people in your family, you probably don't want to leave someone sausage-less, right? Just make this dish—everyone will be satisfied.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Finely chop the cabbage and place it in a pot or a high-sided pan. Add about half a cup of water and salt. Stir and simmer, covered, over low heat.
- 2
Step 2

Peel the onion and carrot. Cut the onion into half-rings or small cubes, grate the carrot on a coarse grater. Place them in a frying pan with vegetable oil and sauté until almost cooked through. This will take about 10 minutes.
- 3
Step 3

Peel the sausages and cut them into small pieces. You can slice them into rounds or cubes, as you prefer. Mix and fry for 2-3 minutes.
- 4
Step 4

Now add tomato paste, stir and fry for just one minute. Pour in half a cup of water, mix and simmer for about 4-5 minutes.
- 5
Step 5

By this time, the water will have evaporated, leaving a golden-brown sauté.
- 6
Step 6

Place the sausages with vegetables and tomato into the almost-ready cabbage, season with pepper. Mix well.
- 7
Step 7

Let the cabbage simmer for about 10–15 minutes. If you prefer cabbage without broth, cook it uncovered, stirring occasionally. If you'd like it with broth, cover the pan with a lid. Taste and add salt if needed. You can also add finely chopped fresh herbs. It's ready.
