Step 1

1. First, prepare the dough. Beat softened butter with sugar and eggs. Add a pinch of vanilla and baking powder. Gradually incorporate the pre-sifted flour, mixing until you get a soft, lump-free dough. Add a little milk during the process. The "Zvezda" cake is best baked in a special mold, but if you don't have one, you can use a regular springform pan. Pour half of the dough into the pan and place it in the preheated oven.

Step 2

2. When the first cake layer is ready, send the second one into the oven. Trim a little dough from the top of the cooled layer to make the surface flat (the trimmings will come in handy later). How to make a "Star" cake without a special pan? You can draw a template and cut the cake layer according to it. Spread cream over the first cake layer. To prepare the cream, beat butter with powdered sugar, add a little milk, and whip until fluffy. Optionally, you can add vanilla extract. Spread part of the cream onto the cake layer.

Step 3

3. Soak the second cake layer with jam or preserves, previously strained through a sieve. Join the layers together. Grind the leftover dough with the remaining cream into a smooth mixture and use it to coat the entire cake. Place the cake in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.

Step 4

4. You can make the fondant in any color. Roll it out thinly and carefully cover the entire cake with it. Smooth out any wrinkles and trim off excess fondant.

Step 5

5. Leave part of the fondant white. Roll it out thinly as well and cut out stars using cookie cutters.

Step 6

6. Carefully place the stars onto the cake, attaching them with water. If desired, you can decorate them with edible glitter. Decorating the cake is a matter of imagination.
