Prepare the cake layers. For baking one layer: rub three egg yolks with 1.3 cups of sugar until white, then add 300 g of sour cream and whisk. Then add 1.3 cups of flour mixed with 1 tsp of baking powder. Whisk three egg whites and gently mix them into the batter. Bake the layers in the oven at 200°C (392°F) for 30–40 minutes.

Prepare the cream. Combine 1 cup of milk and sugar, stir and bring to a boil. Add flour, eggs, and the remaining milk. Bring the mixture to a boil, then let the cream cool and thicken.

Assemble the cake. Spread the cream on the bottom layer, place the next layer on top, spread with cream again, and continue this process until the top. Use the remaining cream to carefully coat the sides of the cake. Shape the cake to resemble a book.

Roll out the fondant into a thin layer.
