Airplane-shaped cake
Description
Delicious baked goods for the whole family. The best base for cakes using fondant will be sponge cake layers. You can bake them using any sponge cake recipe available on the site: there are many variations of sponge cake dough; I prepare it like I do for an apple cake. The cream can be custard, buttercream, or whipped protein—make sure to whip the latter well. Also, to make a cake in the shape of an airplane, you will, of course, need colored fondant. The baking is ready. Serve at the table.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

I recommend making a paper template of the airplane before assembling the cake layers, to use as a guide when building the airplane.
- 2
Step 2

I ended up with three fairly large sponge cake layers, which need to be cut into several pieces of different sizes and shapes. Try fitting the pieces to the diagram before assembling the cake.
- 3
Step 3

Soak the cake layers with your favorite syrup so they are not dry.
- 4
Step 4

Then spread the cake layer with cream.
- 5
Step 5

Assemble the entire cake layer by layer, moistening the cake layers with syrup and spreading cream between them.
- 6
Step 6

Don't forget all the details to give the cake a real airplane shape—tail and top.
- 7
Step 7

Spread the assembled cake evenly and thoroughly with cream on top (preferably using a pastry brush).
- 8
Step 8

To ensure the fondant adheres well to the cake and doesn't melt, prepare the glaze (you can melt chocolate with heavy cream) and carefully spread it over the entire airplane using a hot palette knife.
- 9
Step 9

While the glaze is setting (you can put the cake in the refrigerator for this), prepare the fondant. If the fondant is white, add any food coloring and knead the fondant until the color is uniform. Then roll it out thinly.
- 10
Step 10

Tightly cover the airplane with fondant, and if necessary, tear it into pieces—the cut areas can later be covered with small decorative parts.
- 11
Step 11

The rest of the decorations depend on your imagination: you can add portholes, a pilot's cabin, upholstery, and so on. The inscription depends on the party's theme. I made this cake for a boy's birthday.

Step 12

The airplane-shaped cake is ready.
