Cake with caramel sauce
Description
Homemade baked goods for tea. The tender and airy sponge cake pairs wonderfully with caramel. But to tone down the overly sweet flavor, I recommend using a cream based on cream cheese. However, you can always experiment. Whipped cream, lemon curd, or pastry cream work perfectly.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare the ingredients needed to make a caramel sauce cake.
- 2
Step 2

First, preheat the oven to 180 degrees. To make the sponge cake base, beat the eggs with sugar and vanilla sugar until fluffy.
- 3
Step 3

Add the sifted flour in small portions.
- 4
Step 4

Pour the prepared dough into the pan and place it in the oven.
- 5
Step 5

Meanwhile, you can start working on the sauce. For this, pour the sugar into a small pot or a thick‑bottomed sauté pan and place it over the heat.
- 6
Step 6

Melt the sugar. I keep it on the heat a little longer to achieve a more intense flavor. Add butter to the melted sugar.
- 7
Step 7

Remove the caramel from the heat and pour in the cream. Mix everything thoroughly.
- 8
Step 8

That's it, the caramel sauce is ready.
- 9
Step 9

Add about half of the cooled sauce to the cream cheese and whisk thoroughly. This will be the frosting for our cake.
- 10
Step 10

Ready sponge cake (check doneness with a match or a skewer; baking time depends on the pan used) cool for 5 minutes in the pan, then on a rack.
- 11
Step 11

Cut it carefully in half into two layers.
- 12
Step 12

Spread with cream.
- 13
Step 13

Cover with the second layer.
- 14
Step 14

Spread the remaining cream on the second layer, and decorate the top with caramel sauce.
- 15
Step 15

You can try it after a couple of hours.
