Description

SpongeBob-shaped cake — the best gift for your little one. I don’t know what it is about SpongeBob that kids love so much (I’ve seen the cartoon — nothing special), but the fact remains: a cake shaped like this cartoon character is becoming an ever more popular and sought-after pastry masterpiece. The first question that usually comes up for people who set out to make this cake is how to make “SpongeBob,” that is,

Instructions

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Step 1

First, you need to prepare two sponge cakes for the cake. Beat 5 eggs with 1 cup of sugar until the mixture increases in volume by about 2–3 times, then add 1 cup of flour and beat until smooth. Prepare another batch the same way, but add cocoa to it (one sponge cake should be white, the other brown). Bake the sponge cakes in a baking pan lined with parchment paper for 30 minutes at 180°C.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Step 2

Take the pan in which we will shape our cake. Place the white sponge on the bottom. Pour melted ice cream over it and sprinkle with finely chopped banana.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Step 3

Bring 100 grams of milk to a boil, remove from the heat, and cool to room temperature. Then pour the milk over 40 g of gelatin. Let stand until it has bloomed.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Step 4

Meanwhile, beat 300 g cottage cheese, 500 g sour cream, 200 g cream, and one and a half cups of sugar. Beat with a blender until the sugar dissolves.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Step 5

When the gelatin has bloomed in the milk, melt this mixture in a water bath, then cool to room temperature. Add it to the sour cream filling and beat again until smooth. Pour the resulting mixture onto the white sponge cake and spread evenly.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Step 6

Meanwhile, soak the brown cake layer with compote from canned cherries. Simply use a teaspoon to carefully soak the entire sponge cake.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Step 7

Evenly distribute the canned cherries themselves (pitted, of course) over our soufflé, which has been spread on the white sponge cake.

  8. 8

    Step 8

    Step 8

Cover the cherries with brown sponge cake. Place the cake under a not-too-heavy weight and refrigerate for 2 hours.

  9. 9

    Step 9

    Step 9

When the cake has cooled, remove it from the pan and parchment paper.

  10. 10

    Step 10

    Step 10

Meanwhile, prepare the chocolate ganache cream. Bring 100 g of cream to a boil; add butter and chocolate broken into irregular pieces to the boiling cream. Keep over low heat until the mixture is smooth. When the ganache has cooled, spread it evenly over the cake, then return the cake to the refrigerator for a while to set.

  11. 11

    Step 11

    Step 11

The cake itself is ready, and the most interesting part remains—decorating it. Take yellow fondant, roll it out, and cover half of the cake with it. Cover the other half with rolled brown fondant. For the seam between the two fondants to be even, trim the fondant beforehand with a knife on the side where the seam will be.

  12. 12

    Step 12

    Step 12

Roll out the white fondant and lay a strip of white fondant along the seam where the yellow meets the brown. For the width of this white strip, use the hero image as a guide (it’s best to print a picture of him and keep it in front of you so you don’t get the proportions wrong).

  13. 13

    Step 13

    Step 13

From white fondant, cut out two small triangles — these will be SpongeBob’s collar.

  14. 14

    Step 14

    Step 14

From the same white fondant, cut out the eyes. Attach the collar and the eyes—use a small amount of water to glue them on.

  15. 15

    Step 15

    Step 15

From black fondant, roll out a thin rope.

  16. 16

    Step 16

    Step 16

Using this same black fondant rope, outline SpongeBob’s eyes. Make the pupil from blue fondant and outline it with black fondant as well. Insert a circle of black fondant inside the blue pupil. This is how you make SpongeBob’s eyes.

  17. 17

    Step 17

    Step 17

From yellow fondant, roll out another thin rope; along the perimeter of SpongeBob’s face, lay a wavy line from this rope. From the same rope, shape the nose; from black fondant, cut out the mouth (the mouth is also better outlined with a thin rope of black fondant).

  18. 18

    Step 18

    Step 18

Making the cheeks: cut two circles from yellow fondant, then use a smaller circle cutter to trim off a small edge.

  19. 19

    Step 19

    Step 19

Place the cheeks near the corners of the mouth, outline them with a pink rope, and add a few pink dots inside the cheeks. To outline the cheeks with pink fondant, heat it in the microwave (10–15 seconds), put it in a syringe, and use the syringe to outline the cheeks. Yes, making a SpongeBob cake is no easy task :)

  20. 20

    Step 20

    Step 20

Using manicure scissors, cut out hands from yellow fondant.

  21. 21

    Step 21

    Step 21

Carefully attach the arms to the sides of SpongeBob; cut out sleeves from white fondant (sleeve shape: a flattened triangle).

  22. 22

    Step 22

    Step 22

Roll a fairly thick log from yellow fondant—these will be SpongeBob’s legs. Insert a toothpick into each end of the legs.

  23. 23

    Step 23

    Step 23

Wrap the bottom of each leg with white fondant (these are the socks). On the socks, use a syringe or a very thin fondant cord to make pink and blue stripes (stripes on the socks). Using a toothpick, attach one side of the leg to the body (to the cake), and place a little shoe on the other end of the toothpick.

  24. 24

    Step 24

    Step 24

To make the little boots, blend the sponge cake crumbs (which can be made from cake trimmings) with butter (100 g) and condensed milk (50 g) in a blender. Shape the little boots from the resulting mixture and attach them to the legs.

  25. 25

    Step 25

    Step 25

Don't forget to cover the little boots with black fondant.

  26. 26

    Step 26

    Step 26

From black fondant, make a belt; from red fondant, make a tie.

  27. 27

    Step 27

    Step 27

Since Bob is a sponge, use a ball to make the appropriate indentations on his face.

  28. 28

    Step 28

    Step 28

Mix a little light honey with vodka, dip a brush into the resulting mixture, and brush it over the entire surface of the cake (this is done for shine).

  29. 29

    Step 29

    Step 29

When the cake has set, lightly dust the indentations on Bob’s face with dry green food coloring.

  30. 30

    Step 30

    Step 30

Insert a flag with the child's name into Bob's hand.

  31. 31

    Step 31

    Step 31

Congratulations, the SpongeBob cake is ready. Don't forget to film the child's reaction on video :)
