Step 1

1. This simple oven-baked tilapia recipe in foil uses fillets. Carefully remove any bones (if the fillet is frozen, soak it in water until soft), as well as entrails and skin. Rinse under running water.

Step 2

2. Then each piece should be thoroughly dried using a paper towel or napkin. The fillet must be dry to absorb the marinade well.

Step 3

3. To prepare the marinade, squeeze the juice from half a lemon (you can adjust the amount to taste). If you don't have a lemon on hand, you can substitute a pinch of citric acid. Combine olive oil with lemon juice and mix thoroughly. Add salt and pepper to taste (preferably freshly ground pepper). Spices are a topic in themselves. Oregano, rosemary, and fresh parsley or dill go particularly well with fish.

Step 4

4. Thoroughly pat the fillet dry and carefully coat it on both sides with the prepared marinade. This is a classic recipe for baked tilapia in foil, but if desired, you can add some garlic to the marinade and place the fish on a bed of vegetables.

Step 5

5. Line a baking sheet or baking dish with foil. Place the marinated fish on the foil. You can additionally sprinkle with lemon juice and the remaining marinade. If desired, let the fish marinate for 15–20 minutes. Cover the baking sheet with another piece of foil (you can optionally create a foil pouch), and place the fish in a preheated oven. Tilapia cooks quite quickly—after 15 minutes, check the fish, and if desired, remove the top foil sheet to finish cooking.
