Tibetan butter tea

Description

Tibetan tea stays hot in the cup for a long time due to the layer of clarified butter on its surface. It can be prepared with water or water mixed with milk—for greater nourishment. Adjust the amount of salt to your taste.

    Prepare the listed ingredients. The tea is prepared salty, but you can add sugar to it according to your taste.

    Pour milk of any fat content and water into a saucepan or pot. Add the tea leaves as well. It's best to use loose-leaf tea, as it will be easier to remove later.

    Place the container on the stove and simmer its contents over medium heat for about 2–3 minutes. Add salt to taste. Tibetan tea is served salty, but you can gradually add salt until you find the right amount for your taste.

    Place high-quality butter. This recipe uses ghee; you can melt the butter in advance and then pour it into the tea.

    Simmer the tea for another 2–3 minutes over the lowest heat to fully melt the butter and give the tea a rich, creamy flavor. Turn off the heat.
