Swedish-style meatballs
Description
The dish is prepared without unnecessary complications. Remember what Karlsson loved more than cakes and sausages? Right, meatballs! And this man in the prime of his life certainly knew good food ;) These meatballs are called Köttbullar (köttbullar), and Swedes have been preparing them for several centuries. First, the meatballs are fried, then simmered in a sauce—most often creamy—and served with mashed potatoes and lingonberries. "Oh, wonderful little meatballs! They smelled so delicious and were so crispy, golden-brown—exactly what good meatballs should be!" As a child, I would salivate every time I read these words. And those magical meatballs tempted me far more than any other treats described in Astrid Lindgren's timeless book. If you, too, feel a special fondness for crispy, golden-brown meatballs in a fragrant sauce, then you simply must try this Swedish-style meatball recipe. The dish is now ready to be served.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Soak breadcrumbs or bread crumbs in milk.
- 2
Step 2

Peel the onion and finely chop it.
- 3
Step 3

Sauté in oil until soft.
- 4
Step 4

Place the onion in a bowl with the minced meat. Add the squeezed breadcrumbs (save the milk!), egg, salt, and pepper. Knead the mixture. If the mixture turns out too thick, add a little milk.
- 5
Step 5

Form small meatballs from the minced meat.
- 6
Step 6

And fry until golden brown—just as Carlsson so respectfully likes it—in a generous amount of vegetable oil :)
- 7
Step 7

At this point, the cooking process can be completed — the meatballs can be served in their fried form.
- 8
Step 8

But they are even more delicious when stewed in cream or tomato sauce.
