Pork legs with cabbage
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Pork knuckles with cabbage are very popular in Germany. They turn out tender, with a delicious golden crust. The cabbage absorbs the pork juices, becoming very hearty and aromatic. Try it—you won't regret it. Serve hot.
Instructions
- 1
Step 1

Prepare all the necessary ingredients for cooking pork legs with cabbage.
- 2
Step 2

Scald the pork legs, if necessary, clean them thoroughly, and then rinse. Place them in a pot, add one halved onion, bay leaf, and black pepper. Pour in water and add salt.
- 3
Step 3

Place over medium heat and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting and simmer for one hour.
- 4
Step 4

Peel the onion and finely chop it. Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan and add the onion. Fry over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 5
Step 5

Wash the cabbage, squeeze out the water, and place it in a frying pan with the fried onions.
- 6
Step 6

Sauté the cabbage over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. If needed, add salt and sugar to taste.
- 7
Step 7

Transfer the cabbage to a baking dish and place the pork legs on top. Add 2-3 tablespoons of broth.
- 8
Step 8

Mix sour cream, mustard, soy sauce, and grated garlic in a bowl.
- 9
Step 9

Coat the legs with half of the prepared mixture.
- 10
Step 10

Place the pan in a baking bag or roasting pouch and fold over the edges. Make several small holes in the film.
- 11
Step 11

Bake everything in a hot oven at 180 degrees for one hour.
- 12
Step 12

Remove from the oven and carefully, without burning yourself, take off the bag. Turn the legs over to the other side and coat them with the remaining mixture on all sides.
- 13
Step 13

Place the dish back into the oven bag and bake for another 50-60 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven and take off the oven bag. Immediately portion onto plates and serve.
- 14
Step 14

Serve at the table.
