Surimi
Description
The recipe won't take much time. Essentially, surimi is a semi-finished product used for preparing other dishes. At the same time, surimi can be eaten without additional ingredients, such as crab sticks, which are considered a type of surimi. Serve hot.

Step 1

First, you need to defrost the fish block. To do this, take it out of the freezer and let it thaw for one to one and a half hours. Depending on the size of the block, the defrosting time may vary. Once defrosted, grind the fish in a blender to make minced meat.

Step 2

Place the minced meat in a saucepan and, over low heat, evaporate all the liquid from it. Then dissolve the starch in 100 milliliters of water and add it to the saucepan with the minced meat. Meanwhile, continuously stir the mixture to achieve a uniform consistency. When the mixture thickens, transfer it to a plate and let it cool slightly.

Step 3

When the minced mixture has cooled slightly and is just warm, you can add seasonings to taste. Then it should be tightly pressed into a mold. Alternatively, you can spread it in a layer one to one and a half centimeters thick onto foil. Now, simply wait until the surimi sets, after which the dish can be cut into strips. This is how it is eaten in Japan, the country of origin of surimi.

Step 4

Before using, cut the surimi into pieces of desired size. The remaining portion can be stored in the freezer. This meat is great added to salads, or can be eaten fried, like fish sticks. I coat them in breadcrumbs and fry in vegetable oil.
