Steak with caramelized onions
Description
The dish is prepared without unnecessary complications. Place the steaks on a large plate, rub with garlic, and coat with 2 tablespoons of oil. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside to marinate for 15 minutes at room temperature. Meanwhile, heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Reduce the heat, add the onion, and cook, stirring, until soft and golden brown, about 7 minutes. Add sugar, vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of water, and simmer over low heat, stirring, until the onion is tender, about 3 minutes. Transfer the onion to a bowl and season with salt and pepper. Set aside. Wipe the skillet clean. Heat the remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons of oil in the skillet over high heat. Sear the steaks until golden, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve the dish immediately.
