
Stamppot
Description
A very tasty and delicious dish that can even be served as a side dish at a festive table. Try making stamppot not only from potatoes, but also from boiled pumpkin, zucchini, pattypan squash, tomatoes, etc.

Prepare the listed ingredients. Peel the potatoes and onions and rinse them in water.

Slice the potatoes into small pieces and place them in a cauldron, saucepan, or pot. Add salt and bay leaves, then pour in water to cover the sliced potatoes. Place the container on the stove and boil for 25 minutes.

Poke the boiled potatoes with a fork. If they are soft, the potatoes are done. Remove the bay leaves and mash with a potato masher into a puree. Optionally, add a little butter or warm milk.

Chop the onion into small cubes, as well as the bacon. Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan and sauté both ingredients until golden brown.

Place the fried bacon and onions into the mashed potatoes. If desired, you can add other boiled vegetables: pumpkin, zucchini, or carrots, turning them into a puree as well. Gently mix everything together.

Place the finished dish on a plate and serve hot. It can be accompanied by pickled cucumbers or sauerkraut.
