Horseradish Apple Sauce
Description
Perfectly complements meat, poultry, and side dishes. The recipe for apple horseradish sauce (Apfelkren) originated and developed in southern Germany. This sauce is also known by another popular name—apple horseradish. In appearance, Apfelkren resembles applesauce. It is most commonly mentioned in German cuisine recipes and traditionally served with hot and cold meat dishes, especially beef, as well as smoked fish. A Viennese culinary masterpiece, Tafelspitz, is typically served with apple horseradish. In Austrian cuisine, Apfelkren is commonly paired with poultry dishes. When serving the sauce warm, it is recommended to add a little butter. Apple horseradish pairs well with sausages and other processed meats. Recipe: 1. Cover chopped apples, grated lemon zest, sugar, and salt with a small amount of water and simmer over low heat until soft. 2. Then blend the mixture in a blender or thoroughly mash in a mortar until smooth. Add cream, grated horseradish, lemon juice, and mix thoroughly. That's it—Apfelkren is ready! ;) Serve chilled or at room temperature.
