
Salting Herring
Description
The appetizer is quick and easy to make. When you salt herring at home, you know all sanitary standards will be met, and frozen herring works well. Choose large, fatty herring. Salted herring is a wonderful, tasty, healthy appetizer for any occasion. It is very simple and quick to prepare. Serve the appetizer at the table.

Prepare all ingredients for salting herring.

Thaw the herring. Cut off the head and fins. Gut it and remove the black membrane from the belly. Wash inside and out.

Prepare the brine. Pour water into a pot. Add a bay leaf and peppercorns.

Pour the sugar into a saucepan.

Add salt.

Bring the water in a pot with salt, sugar, and spices to a boil. Simmer for 2–3 minutes, then turn off the heat. Afterward, cool the brine. Cut the herring in half. Place it in any deep container and cover with the brine. Refrigerate for 3 days.

Peel the ready salted herring, slice it, and serve. A nicely fatty, moderately salted herring is simply divine.
